The wellbeing of our international students is our number one priority. To ensure our students have access to the support they need, we’ve partnered with Medibank to offer the DE International Wellbeing Support Service. In addition to providing continued access for our students to Medibank’s 24/7 Student Health and Support Line, the service also provides new avenues for parents, carers and schools to seek help in supporting the wellbeing of our students.
The DE International Wellbeing Support Service will run as a pilot for an initial three months to gauge community need and measure the effectiveness of the service design. We will seek feedback on the service from all stakeholders in September.
Please note, this service is not for use in emergency situations. In an emergency, call triple zero (000).
Medibank 24/7 Student Health and Support Line: 1800 887 283 (within Australia) or +61 2 8905 0307 (international).
Students can call the health and support line to speak to a registered nurse or qualified counsellor, who can provide professional support for students experiencing loneliness, study pressure, adjusting to a new country, anxiety or depression. Medibank's trained staff will triage the student's needs and provide health system navigation and support to help them find a doctor, psychologist and hospitals nearby so they get the right support when they need it.
Outbound Support: online referral form
This referral service has been designed to assist students requiring additional support. Referred students receive a call from a psychologist of up to one hour and up to four follow up calls of approximately 30 minutes each. Outbound support calls are made between 3pm and 6pm and an interpreting service is available for students during the calls. Students can be referred for outbound support through our online referral form.
Schools and Carers Support Line: 1300 307 374 (10am-6pm weekdays)
The Schools and Carers Support Line provides guidance to the adults who engage with our international students, including school staff and host parents, to assist them in supporting the wellbeing of international students. The Schools and Carers Support Line is available 10am-6pm weekdays and an interpreter can be arranged if required. If you are unsure whether to refer a student for outbound support, please don’t hesitate to call the Schools and Carers Support Line for advice on the best course of action.
