Luke's story

I started my study at Mosman High School in 2019. The school has a free academic atmosphere, where students can develop in their favourite fields and do not have to wear school uniforms.

When I first entered school, I was not familiar with the lifestyle here due to language and cultural issues. However, the classmates and teachers were very friendly, so I gradually started to get used to the environment.

I enjoyed my time studying at Mosman High. There are complete sports facilities and a spacious library. The teachers always encourage students to think independently and learn critical thinking. At the same time, if there are any questions that students don't understand, as long as you ask, the teacher will answer them very patiently. Once, I was confused about the modern history essay homework, and the teacher kept me after class and gave me 40 minutes of private tutoring, which has deepened my feelings for the school and my trust in NSW Government Schools.

My favourite subject is Japanese. I have loved watching Japanese anime since I was a kid, and the songs I listened to and the games I played also all contained Japanese (such as Arknights), which created a natural Japanese environment for me. After receiving formal Japanese language instruction at school, my Japanese language proficiency began to improve rapidly, finally winning the honour of State Rank 1 in HSC.

Among the many achievements I have reached, one that fills me with the greatest pride is my selection as a NSW Government Schools International Student Ambassador. The experience of engaging with distinguished members of the NSW Government and connecting with accomplished alumni who share similar achievements stands as one of the most rewarding and enriching chapters of my journey.

My school life in Sydney was very fulfilling. I participated in the school band and tennis team and performed piano and violin in the school concert at the end of each semester. At the same time, I joined the Student Representative Council (SRC), organised bake sales and other charity events for the school and designed our year’s school jersey for 2024.

Outside of school, I led and participated in Chinese debate competitions every year, building strong friendships with students from other schools and enhancing the reputation of my school.

After I completed the HSC, I enrolled at the University of Sydney and started studying the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Laws. In the future, I plan to become the chairman of a multinational trading group, so I have been developing my leadership skills since high school, and will continue to move towards my goal at university. As an international student ambassador, I will also use my leadership skills to guide each international student to find a way forward.

Though my high school days have come to an end, yours are either still in progress or yet to commence. As a senior, I wish to share with you that choosing to study at an NSW government school is undoubtedly a wise decision. You will encounter a diverse array of people and experiences, each contributing to the enrichment of your life's tapestry. These moments will not only offer you cherished and uplifting memories but will also broaden your horizons and lay a strong foundation for the bright future that lies ahead.
